Lake Tinaroo, Tinaroo Dam and Tinaburra Fishing Update  July 2019

What species of fish are in Lake Tinaroo dam:

Barramundi, Archerfish, Bony Bream, Eel-Tailed Catfish, Mangrove Jack, Mouth Almighty, Northern Saratoga, Sleepy Cod, Silver Perch, Snub Nosed Gar, Sooty Grunter and Redclaw Crayfish.

Tinaroo Dam is stocked by The Tableland Fish Stocking Society Inc. The dam is stocked with barramundi and sooty grunter. In 2017/18, 54,550 barramundi were stocked from SIPS permit sales. A total of 380,272 barramundi have been stocked in Tinaroo Dam from SIPS.   Tinaroo Dam is well known for its big barramundi.  There are also some big mangrove jack in the dam that were stocked as part of a research stocking trial.

Location

Tinaroo Dam is located just north of Yungaburra on the Atherton Tableland. There are no vessel restrictions on the dam. The dam is popular for fishing and watersports. Boat, kayak, canoe and stand-up paddleboard hire is available Yungaburra – ask us at reception where. The facilities at the dam at Tinaburra 5 minutes drive from Yungaburra include toilets, barbeques, picnic tables, kids playground and boat ramp. The dam is surrounded by a network of trails suitable for walking, hiking and mountain biking.
